These are a few of the steps that can help ensure the safety and get your house back to "normal" faster.

PROFESSIONAL SAFETY TIPS

1) Turn off electricity: If there is standing water, water in areas on the floor or the leak is near electrical outlets, switches, or appliances, anything that uses electricity, the best way to be safe is to shut it off at the circuit breaker.
2) Turn off the main water supply: If you can't easily find the source of the leak in the house, you can shut off your main water supply, it's usually by the front entrance, be careful to turn it slowly as it can be damage or even broken if turned too hard or too quickly.
3) Avoid contact with contaminated water: If the water is contaminated, meaning sewage or flooding, especially in bathrooms avoid contact and wait for professional help.
4) Keep children and pets away: Keep children and pets away from the affected areas to ensure their safety.
5) Ventilate the area: Air it out, open your windows and doors (if safe) to get the air flowing. This can help reduce moisture content in the air and help slow possible mildew and mold growth.
6) Be cautious with appliances: Don't use electrical appliances like vacuum cleaners or fans in standing water for the simple reason of the risks associated with electrical shock.
7) Ceiling or wall damage safety: Look for signs of sagging ceilings or warped walls, they may pose risks of falling. It's just better to stay away from those areas until the assessment is done
